Boys are stupid

According to Eva. Or at least one.

Saturday we were taking Austin to the Y for a pick-up game with his buddies and it was nice and sunny. Eva was in the backseat with Austin and she kept saying, “a storm is coming, a storm is coming” in a weird voice and waving her hands in his face. He looked at her and said, “Eva that is really creepy.” Without missing a beat she yelled, “It’s not cweepy, STUPID!”

Austin buried his face in his hands and pretended to cry to cover up his laughter. I too was sunk way down in the front seat so she wouldn’t see me laughing. She looked at Austin and seemed frustrated that he would cry over being called Stupid and sighed, “hugs and kisses?”

Later that night a huge storm rolled in- Austin was at a sleep-over with a bunch of boys and he texted me “Eva was right!!”

She started calling him “stupid” last week. We picked him up from lacrosse and he was bugging me about needing more clothes (I think I mentioned they have to dress up on game days and all of our stuff is packed- and will be forever it seems…) Anyway I said, “really? why do you wait until the last minute??” and she said, “yeah, stupid!”

He was not pleased. He said, “mom!!! she can’t call me that!” but I was trying not to laugh. I did (eventually tell her that she couldn’t call him that, and she would go in time out if she did it again). But really, it’s my fault. She has heard me call our little dog that numerous times. Our little dog has a very little bladder and has not adjusted to not having a yard very well. She pees on the floor- a lot. And I have been known to say “stupid dog” under my breath when I clean it up.

So, the brother is stupid. And I wonder about all of her influences. And how she will yell “I farted” or “look there’s a turd!”.

Today we were at Old Navy and there was an Hispanic mom there with two little girls, both around Eva’s age. Her eyes got huge and she ran over to join the girls to hang out and pick up shoes, skirts, and all things girlie. I stood back and let her have her 5 minutes of sisterhood. They chatted and ran around the store together and not for the first time my heart did a little flip flop with the knowledge that she would have loved having a sister.

I know- because I always wanted one too.

We did a lot of chalk drawing today

One benefit to our townhouse is a big open slab of concrete in the back- perfect for chalk.

And pretty little hispanic girls

Even if she calls her brother stupid

It’s hard to get mad that that face

You would have a hard time too

And some times boys ARE stupid- just kidding. Sometimes they do stupid things, like call their little sister creepy.

And then out of no where the wind came

And for a girl that likes her hair free and flowing, this can be a problem

a big problem

But “it’s not cweepy, stupid.” Seriously. One of the best. lines. ever.

I agree with Eva…that’s what I am trying to convince my middle school daughter…boys do what they do because they are just stupid ole’ boys, especially boys in middle school…I hope I have her convinced!!

Oh, sweet Eva! It has been quite awhile since I have commented. I do check in daily to see your blog posts. Lots going on for your family. I hope you can all get settled in very soon. It will be a wonderful summer for you all in your new home. You can take the time to discover your neighborhood and make new friends. How exciting! Once you are settled maybe “stupid” little dog will have his own yard and not pee in the house. I am sure he isn’t “stupid”! Just confused! Eva is growing up so fast. It is hard to believe she is not a baby anymore. Enjoy and savor these precious moments. I am sure you are sick of older moms telling you that. I know I didn’t believe in the middle of raising three little girls that I would someday yearn for a little one on my lap again. Time for grandkids, maybe…

Boys are stupid….well not our boys but some boys are stupid.

Sophia really really wants a sister. It kills me. She calls her dad Mr. Jiggly Boobs. Seriously. She thought it up on her own. I’m not sure what I am going to do with her. I can’t even hide the laughter anymore.
