Today I was chatting with one of my friends from home Ohio and she asked if I was fed up with townhouse living. I belted out YES pretty quick. I am tired of it. But I am also thankful for it. It’s been a good place to get adjusted. Spend time together. It’s hard to believe it has already been one month since that crazy trip down here.
The worst part of it is that the master bedroom is downstairs and the other two bedrooms are upstairs. So the boys have all of their stuff upstairs and they won’t let Eva in. I think I mentioned this before, she figures out their code words and such and they still won’t let her in. Makes her CRAZY. Makes me crazy. I get that they don’t want her in there. They have a tv up there and the xbox. She goes in and turns off their games while they are playing online with friends. So I understand. But that doesn’t make it any easier. She has very few toys here. And the one room downstairs she can hang in can get pretty old. And small. Oh and did I mention she sleeps in my closet? Yeah, so I have no place for clothes. And speaking of clothes, the other day I realized that all I packed was UGG boots (4 pairs- for NC!!!!!) also a pair of furry clogs and a pair of running shoes. Needless to say my feet have been sweating!!! I was positive I had a pair of Doc Martens in a box in the garage but no luck. The other day I got so frustrated that I threw Eva in the car and we went to DSW and dropped some cash on some shoes without fuzzy lining. My feet are thanking me.
I know I will look back, read this blog and laugh about how short of a time we spent here in temp living. Roll my eyes at my impatience. But tonight as these walls are closing in on me and I think about our house down the road waiting for us….well it is what it is.
Moving on.
I am now looking forward to our trip home to Ohio. I was worried Eva would be confused. Getting in, seeing her old house, her toys, sleeping in her room and in her bed (she is in a pack and play now). Well of course she will be confused. But it will be worth it. I am excited to see friends.
When we moved I rationalized that this was not goodbye- it was see ya later. And I intend to make that work. I will still go up there and my friends will come here. I have only been here a month (today!) and already had 3 friends in NC for the past week (one of them owns a beach house a few hours away). I thought about meeting them out at the beach but the timing didn’t work out. But next time.
Ohio was such a huge chunk of our lives. And while I am excited about moving forward and what the future has to offer here in the Carolinas (!!!! I still can’t believe this is my home!!!!) I realize that it doesn’t mean that we can’t make Ohio remain a big part of our lives. It is, it always will be. And so that is the way it will be.
Yesterday Austin and I went to the store together and chatted about things that are different here. Mostly that there are no “walkable” neighborhoods. This is of course good and bad. I love walkable neighborhoods. But I also like having my own space. So this of course is an adjustment. It’s more driving. But it’s also everyone having HUGE yards. Like at least an acre yard. We wanted 2 acres. We got 1.75. Not bad. It’s lots of trees, animals, amazing outdoor spaces. Trade-offs….
I keep asking myself, is this our forever home? At this point I don’t know. We bought this house with that intention. I always thought we would retire here (in the Carolinas). But I am sure it is waaaaay to early to think about. I do know I have one boy with his heart set on UNC, and another with his heart set on NC State. So who knows. I just know that this job will allow Andy’s career to blossom in ways in never could if we stayed put. So for that (and him), I am happy.
So, now for some pictures
If you are thinking she’s looking like a big girl lately you would be right.
The best part of her day? Meeting the older brothers when they get home from school
It’s my fave time too!

She is such a cutie, I’d be taking pictures of her all the time! (which we DO with our cutie, to the point where when she sees the camera she puts her hand up and says no! like we’re paparazzi!). Moving is THE absolute worst. Hang in there! It’ll get so much better 🙂

Good grief, is she the cutest thing ever? I am pretty sure she is. I love the shot of her and the boys. Love it.
I’m glad you bought some new shoes, otherwise you would have been known as the lady with stinky feet to all your new neighbors. 🙂
