Just to warn you, you know- in case you want to stop reading before you even begin.
My online friend Elizabeth and I always joke about our “stomach flu diet”. Basically when the first kid pukes, we switch to very little food intake, smoothies only. The idea is that if we get it, the puke won’t be so gross. Now I am sure that puke is gross either way, and I have never puked while on my “stomach flu diet” so I have no idea if it would be any less gross but after the last two days, well I can say is that it would HAVE to be.
I didn’t have time to start my “stomach flu diet” this time around. By the time I heard Austin in his bathroom down the hall puking, I was already on my way to my own bathroom. Andy was only a few minutes behind to the other boys bathroom. I have never been so happy for multiple bathrooms.
It was a bad one. I finally realized it was easier to just lay on the bathroom floor all night instead of going back and forth every 30 minutes. I couldn’t sleep. I had my iphone propped up and I just watched the time. Didn’t my friend Sandra tell me that she had this recently and it was a 12 hour deal, instead of the usual 24? Man I was hoping so.
I spent much of the night rolling in pain- thinking that I hadn’t had a night that bad since I was in labor with Blake- which I was trying to do a VBAC without drugs. But Blake was pain, and this was just horrible nausea. Horrible. especially when there was nothing left to puke up- but I was still puking. UGH.
I was so thirsty and I kept talking to myself, about the Sprite I was gonna have when I felt better. For those of you that had c-sections like me, or any other abdominal surgery- you know how good that first drink tastes. They give you ice chips forever and you are just so thirsty and then finally, the clear liquid go-ahead. Nothing has ever tasted so good.
Fortunately Andy wasn’t hit as hard. He only puked once, so he could hold down the fort the next day. He went to get me Sierra Mist and dropped Eva off at my cousin Dee’s house so I could rest. He worked from home, got Barley in for her surgery (which is today) and fed the other kids.
I finally made it down the hall to Austin’s room late yesterday afternoon to see how he was doing. “Was that the worst night of your life?” I asked. “Pretty much, I puked through my nose”. It’s funny now, sorta.
Whew, sorry for the gross post. Bonus is I think I lost 5 lbs. which I’m sure I can keep off as I am never eating again.
As you might imagine my house is trashed from top to bottom so today is a day to clean clean clean!
And since no post is good without a picture, here are my kiddos at the farm

Austin’s comment was so funny! Sorry to hear about your illness! We leave for Seattle in 4 days and my kids are on quarantine. No playdates with the sick kids we are friends with until we get home. There are bugs going around here, they say we’ve all been cooped up inside with AC running that it’s like flu season all over again!
