When I popped in my memory card after our “cousin camp” trip to the OBX this past summer I was a little sad that I wasn’t in any picture. Not one. Not even half of one.
Yet I was there. At least I think I was.
And it’s not that I like to see myself in pictures because I usually run from the camera. I am WAY more comfortable behind it.
But still, a whole vacation- not one pic.
That’s just wrong. For me, and for my kids. They want to know their mom was there. At least I think they do.
Today I was in the backyard of our rent house, snapping some pics of Cole
And Shiloh
I bought a new lens and it has a bit of a learning curve
Cole is such a mama’s boy
“Please can I take a few pics of you mom??”
So even though I was having a bad hair day and I hadn’t looked in the mirror since 6:50am I said- ok.
And I knew I probably looked like crap and I wish I was skinnier, etc. But I still did it.
I KNOW as a photographer the importance of pictures. Yet to get on the other side is so hard….
But I set the camera settings and handed it over- and he did awesome. Even on manual.
I was happy to pop in my card and see myself- in all my faults and bad hair. Because I am part of the story as well.
So get in front of the camera Mamas and ham it up, even if your dog has bad breath (and tries to lick your face with it)- and even if you look at the picture and think “wow, maybe it’s time I try Botox??”

You look awesome as always and I love your hair! The way you look in those pictures is real life and exactly how your kids will remember you.

I hate my pics, I am guilty of no Mom and no Gigi in pics. I will make myself do this, it may give the family giggles!

Girl you look beautiful!! They did a segmant a few weeks ago on the Today show about the same thing. A mom who had a blog and mentioned how she was never in the pictures wth her kids and all of a sudden she got flooded with responses and pictures of moms with pics of themselves with their kids. I sometimes think about that too. Not being in enough pictures and then I see your great blog and see ALL the great shots of your kids and think I need to start taking more pictures of my kids too. I dont want to miss out on them growing up esp the oldest. He is never around anymore so it’s doubly hard to get pics. Anywho great post this morning really made think of how I want to be part of my kids pics too 🙂

You look great, and thanks for the reminder. I am in very very few of our family pictures. It makes me sad too, I just need to get over it.

You know what? I think if you lived here… we could totally be friends. Maybe not with that Hannah chick, but we could take pics of each other. And… I could use your lens. And come live in your basement. Oh wait… I guess I would have to come there. Tell Nicole that I will be seeing you both soon!

New lens?? You can’t leave camera creepers like me hanging! More details!
These are great by the way. If this is you on a dirty hair day, need botox and to lose weight day….then my life is not fair, because you are gorgeous!

I have one photo of you at the beach and I think it’s of you showing the photo you just took to Max and Blake, they are looking at the screen at the back of the camera. I got in a couple, and Julie got in a few more because she had a lot of family shots. I guess you are stuck because you take BY FAR the best photos of the bunch of us. I’m going to do a documentary next trip…. My Sister-In-Law at Christmas (I hope!)
