We are on the waitlist for a puppy for early next year, and honestly we can’t wait. If you need ideas for your dog this holiday season, here is a list I posted a while back.
So here is the thing about Golden Retrievers. They are the sweetest dog ever, unless you are a dog toy.
We have tried countless toys with our boys and most of the time they last less than an hour before their white fluffy guts are all over the house.
We have done Bark Box for a couple years. I absolutely love the themes, as do my kids- but the toys just couldn’t stand up to my furry friends. So we upgraded to the heavy chewer. This has been good but I will admit not near as fun.
So what do you do if your doggo is captain distructo?
Here is what we have tried lately that lasted more than a couple days.
I saw these little pigs on a Golden Retriever board I am on and knew I had to try them even if they didn’t last. The noise they make is kinda loud but funny.
Oakley was absolutely terrified of them for the first couple of days. Hudson of course loved them. Slowly Oak warmed up and now they both play with them. They are still in good shape (I bought two) about a month later. Downside is the rubber gets really slobbery and gross if you have a retriever that likes to retrieve. Only one of ours does so when he dumps it in our laps it can be a bit yucky to pick up.
Both of my boys love the hedgehogs so much. They are soft and make a fun noise but this is one that I buy and plan to throw away the same day.
We have a bunch of the chukit! balls. Blue ones, orange ones, orange and blue ones but our fave is the one that glows. They are a staple for our yard, pool, and beach. We try to make sure Hudson doesn’t bring them inside because if he does he won’t be able to relax. It’s non-stop ball.
So we decided to try one of the indoor ones.
It actually lasted for about a month until they got in a tug-of-war with it and ripped the outside of it off. The inside of it looks and feels like a rice cake and they still play with that part.
This cool glow in the dark kick ball hasn’t seen much use yet. I am guessing it will be fun in the pool this summer. Plus it glows in the dark!
Plush Puppies are well made and seem to hold up for a while around here.
One of our favorite toys is the Kong. I bought 4 (for two dogs) so that I can rotate them. I fill them with pumpkin puree, greek yogurt, or peanut butter. Pop them in the freezer and then they are good to go. They keep the dogs entertained for a while! We even pack them when we go on trips.
Hope this helps anyone out there looking for new toys for your furry friend.
