The other day I went to look at a very old victorian house with a friend of mine.
I will be the first to admit that while I love old houses more than most people, victorians are my least favorite.
Back in the 1800’s when these houses were built people were a bit dark- like a bit goth-ish.
Don’t get me wrong- the details were absolutely amazing. The trim, the history, the transoms….
But you can’t tell me you don’t think of Wednesday Addams when you see Eva at the piano in the picture below. If only she were wearing black instead of neon green.
It didn’t help that the house filled with other Addams Family like stuff
like creepy dolls everywhere- even on the walls
But back to the house. I’m thinking that not only did people in the 1800’s have a dark side but they also weren’t very big. All the stairs were kinda skinny but the backstairs were steep AND skinny.
The main staircase was cool though
My personal style is open and airy with lots of natural light and big white trim. I could appreciate all the work that went into this house though.
Eva cried when we went up to the attic. It was pretty creepy and obvious slaves had been kept up there.
So tell me, yay or nay? Could you live in an old Victorian?

Nay. 🙂 It is beautiful but soooo not my style!! I read your title and thought, “really, is she going to build a victorian house?” Haha. I knew your style too. I found your blog back when you were renovating your other house. 😉

HELL NO!!!! That place was creeeeeepy! And all those creepy dolls? The house reminded me of the show American Horror Story. I could never live in a house like that. I hate old homes. I’m pretty sure that house had lots of spirits.

Not me, but the woodwork is magnificent. Not bad for a museum house.

I think I could live in it. Not with that decor though (shudder).
