Happy Halloween

Last weekend we invited a few neighbors over to carve pumpkins- in the spirit of our traditional pumpkin carving party of years past.

It was a little odd not having the familiar faces around. But it was nice to hang with the new people as well.

I’m not going to lie, I am having a hard time getting used to the South and their lack of the fun traditional things I am used to- no Homecoming dance, no Halloween parties at school.

Sending Cole off to school this morning was a little sad. No costume, no parade, no class party. In fact there are no class parties at all. For any holidays.

We even got an email from Blake’s school saying to make sure no candy comes to school the next day because it doesn’t fit into their “wellness program”.

Whatever.

I am missing the things that made being a kid fun. Things are a tad serious down here in the land of academia.

This is what Halloween should look like at an elementary school.

Of course one of my BFF’s calling me after the weekend saying, “please move back, things are not the same without you!!” Did not help my nostalgia for all things Ohio.

Moving on.

Eva’s little buddy came dressed to party.

Fall is a time of traditions and starting over isn’t easy. That’s Fo Show.

And here are some pumpkins. Eva’s is the witch, and Austin’s is the OH- (with IO on the other side)

Thinking about all the people that have been affected by the hurricane. Not a fun Halloween for them, that’s for sure.

I can’t believe they don’t do any of the fun fall stuff. That’s just weird. Maybe you should start a few new traditions and teach them how it’s done.

Seriously, I do think there is just something about the fall that makes you want to be surrounded by family and friends and have traditions.

They’ve probably never heard of Hank Williams Jr.

I’m glad you have the photo of the results of the pumpkin carving. I always look forward to seeing that. It will be quiet here tonight…of course.

Well, it looks like you started a new tradition for your kiddos! Our new school only does Halloween and Valentine’s day…Hope you have fun today and get lots of good candy:)

Our grandkids that just moved North of Atlanta have no Halloween fun today either. I was wondering if it was Bible Belt no Halloween…
But as I am in Ohio I get to enjoy some of the fun traditions. No carving party with good food at your house! No sighting of the cute little girl at the school parade…..

Not being able to celebrate Halloween at school would really depress me esp. If you and the kids are used to that every year. That is just awful. I think you need to move back to Ohio! Lol
