Barley Girl

A couple weeks before we left for Texas my Barley girl started limping. Since she is at the vet every other week for her allergy issues (it seems like) we had them check it out, they thought she had just pulled a muscle.

But it just kept getting worse. And now she puts no weight on it at all. So back into the vet she went.

Turns out she tore her acl in her leg. And she needs surgery at Ohio State. And it’s gonna cost about 3k.

🙁

But it’s my Barley girl. We got her when Cole was 6 months old. She is the best dog, despite terrible allergies and costing us a bajillion dollars over the last 7 years.

She loved sleeping in Cole’s carseat as a pup

I know a lot of people would put her down. That’s not an option.

She doesn’t have cancer, she has something that can be fixed. And we are gonna fix it.

The other day Austin asked me what I would have done if I had gone back to grad school. Vet. Of course. I thought I had told him that a million times. I’m sure I did.

My dream job now would be to rescue abused dogs. I would turn the farm into a safe place to rehab them and then put them up for adoption. Dream job for sure. Man I love dogs. They are the best.

If it is hot where you live please bring your dogs inside. 🙂

My sister in law had to repair her dog’s acl last year. sadly, she had to put her boxer down monday night due to a twisted stomach. good luck with surgery, and keeping her down for rehab!!

What a sweet face she has. Love the snoozing puppy in the carseat. Our lab had the same surgery two days after our baby daughter came home from Korea. Timing stunk, but oh well!I rocked a baby and pet a cone-headed dog in the middle of the night. It seemed like someone was always awake to keep an eye on her those first few weeks. Good luck!

The picture of her in the carseat almost made me run right out to buy myself a puppy…cutest thing I have ever seen!

    Good luck with the surgery!

Yep, you gotta do it. We lost our 11 year old Golden to cancer last December. A friend of mine just spent 6K on surgery for her dog’s broken back. There goes her new bathroom!

This is crazy timing for me to read this – I just returned home from the orthopedic vet with my 10-year old black Lab. Same thing with a leg that continues to get worse. We were prepared for the torn cruciate surgery. About $1,500 later we now know our dog does not have Valley Fever, arthritis, hip dysplasia or a torn cructiate, but most likely a pulled muscle. Ugh!

Those are some of the most precious pics. Love the one of Barley in Cole’s car seat. Super cute. Pets are family too. I can’t imagine not doing what I could for my pet. Give that sweet dog of yours a big squeeze for me!

my dog did this this past winter. our vet told us that whatever surgery we chose (there were 3 options) that it would never be healed. it was just a temporary fix. he explained it like a rubberband. once it snaps it can never be fixed. we ended up not doing surgery & she’s fine but sometimes hops without that leg yet still goes on long walks. just wanted you to know!

I’m catching up after hiding from the computer for a while. I need a break i guess…I just kept avoiding it. I wouldn’t put her down either. My doggies stay outside even in the heat, but mostly because they are crazy. They have water to lay in all day and then we give them showers 🙂 They love it.

I loved seeing all your pictures, I love the one of Eva with the sun streaming in. So glad that your trip took care of the summer blues.

First, I love love the picture of her in the carrier. Adorable! And second, I’d do the surgery in a heartbeat. My crazy 20 month old black lab has already cost us about $5k in medical bills (he ate a rock, then had a reaction to the surgery, threw out his back, etc.) and I would do it again! He is a sweetheart and I know my 6 month old daughter and him will be the best of friends.
