Finding our groove with a PROMO!

This has been a crazy month for us. I always count off the first few weeks of school as an adjustment time but this year has been a little more crazy than normal. And each kid seems to have different issues.

Cole has had a rough time adjusting to his early morning schedule. He is not a morning person. I’m not either. I like summer hours! His school only lasts until 11am- I can barely make it to the grocery store and back!

Austin is the busiest right now. Football three times a week and a game on Sundays. Guitar lessons. And really that isn’t anything compared to what a lot of his friends do. He has been grumpy, he likes to spend time with his dad, and his dad has been very busy at work. It is starting to show.

Blake always seems to roll with it. But his disorganization and habit of saying, “oh yeah, I have homework” 5 minutes before bed kills me.

So we are adjusting, factor in a baby that I get up with multiple times a night, a sickness that ran through the family, giving myself food poisoning (see there is a reason I shouldn’t cook), Andy working tons of hours…..

It hasn’t been an easy month. And we are all showing the effects.

Trying to go to sleep last night I thought about things I want to change, to make my kids (and I) happier. The first thing is I am going to insist on homework right after school. I usually do this anyway, but a lot of time a friend is over, or I am running one kid (and baby) here or there. That needs to change. I hate it when dinner time rolls around and I am dealing with a cranky baby, football practice, cooking, and homework.

Speaking of dinner. I have been making 2 sometimes 3 dinners a night. This has to change. We NEVER eat as a family. I have decided that I am not going to wait until Andy gets home to eat dinner anymore. I am going to sit down and eat with my kids. We are going to eat at a normal dinner time. No more 7pm or later. No more tv with dinner.

Then there are video games. I have been so lax about this because I have been trying to save my sanity while adjusting to our new crazy schedule, life with a baby, running a business…
I am going to enforce limits. Cole needs to get outside and ride his bike or rollerblade, Blake needs to shoot hoops, Austin needs to throw the football. If I have to get out there and do it with them, I will. It kills me that the summer is gone and Cole was not on his bike more than 5 times. UGH!

I am trying to be realistic, because how much can one person do? But I need to try harder. I do know that.

Ok, enough about me….

We got out some Halloween/Fall stuff

I can totally relate with everything you said… schedules, meals, homework.. everything. We’ve gone back to letting the kids have about an hour break when they get home from school, then it’s homework time. Period. For meals, the crockpot is my best friend… but the key for me was to PLAN AHEAD instead of going to the store everyday because I don’t have anything that I can put together for a meal. I feel so much more relaxed knowing that I have a plan. And, the video games…. totally hear you… glad to know my kid wasn’t the only one who didn’t ride his bike all summer 🙂 Hang in there!

I know how you feel. I don’t have 4 kids but we are moving to a suburb of Cincy (from Florida) in November. My husband leaves in 4 weeks and that means I stay behind for the movers and the homeschooling. It has been so stressful since August with getting everything together and the house listed all while dealing with the railroad and the buyout of our house if it doesn’t sale. It just equals a very stressful time. You will get it all together. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You have a lot going on and it is okay if things are a little crazy. I just tell myself that it is life. I love Waffles collar. It looks just like Meg. Very cute!

I understand your frustration. Hopefully you will all find your groove when you get a schedule going. It always helps us! And I hope for your sake your little girl starts sleeping through the night soon!
I love your dog collars. And you inspired me to get out my fall stuff!

I love these collars! So cute!

When my hubby was working until 7pm (he now works at home with me, thank goodness) the kids and I had dinner at 5:30 and then they had dessert at the table with him while he ate his dinner.
Such a little thing but it made a huge difference in our home.
